Polar Adventure, the fourth of five vessels in a double-hulled fleet, begin service in 2004 for Polar Tankers, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of ConocoPhillips. Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Avondale, La., built the state-of-the art tankers. Endeavour Class vessels have double hulls with 10 feet of space between the inner and outer hulls, two independent engine rooms, redundant propulsion and twin steering systems, a bow thruster and state of the art navigation systems.
Polar Tankers, Inc., a subsidiary of ConocoPhillips operates a fleet consisting of six vessels ranging in size from 90,000 to 188,000 DWT. The entire fleet is employed in the Alaska crude trade. ConocoPhillips is an integrated oil company with interests around the world.
